HOW TO CHOOSE DOORS AND BATHROOM DOORS (part 1)
Interior doors to the bathroom are not made of brick and concrete. They are not cast from iron; they are not cut from marble and malachite. All that you see in the shops is a tree, only in different technological and decorative arrangements. The use of doors in the apartment could not be surpassed even by beautiful arches. And if we choose the most beautiful for the living room and bedroom, then for the bathroom – beautiful and moisture resistant.

Ordinary situation: after prolonged taking a hot bath, the humidity in the room approaches 100%. The first material that will take on a powerful blow of condensate is a tree. An increase in the moisture content of wood will first be reflected in a change in its physical properties, and then in appearance. In particular:
mechanical strength will decrease: the door will become susceptible to deformations;
thermal conductivity will increase (perhaps for a bathroom door this is not so important, but still);
conductivity will increase;
the density will increase and the door will become heavier, which will create an additional load on the hinges;
most importantly, wood will become a welcoming home for fungi and bacteria.
How to choose the right door for the bathroom in order to avoid all these negative consequences, you will learn from the article, which was prepared for our publication by the specialists of the interior door store “At Home”.
What materials are categorically unsuitable for doors to the bathroom?
A door made of very moistened wood, especially from its cheap varieties or pressed sawdust, will last an average of 4 years. It is not entirely correct to talk about choosing a specific material for making a bathroom door.

We could now (as many do) give data on how oak, pine, ash behave in a humid environment, paint the advantages and disadvantages of each, maybe even do it later, but this will not move us closer to answering the main question – What kind of wood door can be installed in the bathroom? Because:
the susceptibility of the door to moisture depends on the characteristics of the tree, and on the chosen method of protection, and on the quality of its implementation. Considering that finishes are the first and main barrier to moisture penetration, it is the coating that plays an important role when choosing a design for rooms with high humidity.
WAYS TO PROTECT AN INTERIOR DOOR FROM MOISTURE
The protection of wood from moisture, fungus, insects is usually called preventive. This is a whole range of measures, which include:
selection of quality “healthy” wood without knots, bast, bark;
drying in compliance with technological nuances;
competently performed deep processing using impregnating compounds;
lining of wood materials and films;
the use of chemical protective equipment with pronounced decorative properties.

Wood protection with impregnating compounds is divided into 3 types:
marginal (funds penetrate 3-4 mm thick);
deep (impregnated to a depth of at least 10 mm).
In the factory, the compositions are applied by immersing the blanks in a bath, by placing them in a boiler under pressure or by creating a vacuum medium.
For deep processing use a large group of chemicals, otherwise called impregnations. Most compounds at the same time perform the function of water repellents and protect the tree from the harmful effects of insects. Such materials contain biocidal components that act on the microorganism as toxins.
For surface treatment of wood use:
Stains steal on a cleaned primed surface. They are used where it is required to preserve the natural pattern of the tree, to make contrasting transitions.
Wax clean surfaces. The composition penetrates into the deeper layers of the tree, does not clog pores, while maintaining the ability of the material to “breathe”. Depending on the desired result, a colorless or tinted wax is chosen. It gives the door a beautiful color – from natural light to rich red or black “under the wenge”.

Oil – linseed, tung, fir, tar, etc. Safe, inexpensive and effective type of processing, but not durable. Will have to update coverage every six months.
